A hoax? I can hear you ask, why is that, OldHardHead?

Nancy Pelosi declared drilling a “hoax.”

After watching Republicans gain political traction in recent weeks with calls for more offshore drilling, Democratic leaders hope the legislation will provide political cover for moderate members of their caucus who face tough re-election fights.

Now, after getting hammered by the GOP and public opinion demanding that the Democrats in charge take steps toward energy independence, San Fran Nan and her do-nothing crew have passed a drilling bill that is, well, a hoax. The bill is HR 6899.

Democratic leaders called it a step toward energy independence, but Republicans labeled it a “sham” because most of the estimated 18 billion barrels of oil believed to lie below off-limits coastal waters are within 50 miles of land and will remain out of bounds.

The measure passed in a largely party-line vote of 236-189. It now goes to the Senate, where energy will be the topic later in the week. Thirteen Democrats bucked their leadership and voted against the measure.

Is the Senate version going to be better?

The momentum is there, San Fran Nan and the Dems are trying to slow it down and stop it.

But with the ban set to expire at the end of this month
and the November elections approaching, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi shifted her stance, proposing legislation that would allow drilling as close as 100 miles from shore, and with a state's permission, as close as 50 miles from shore.

If Congress does not act and the offshore ban expires, oil companies could technically start drilling within 3 miles of any shore, which is where state jurisdiction ends and federal waters begin.

Say No to Sham Energy Deal with Real Victory in Sight

The so-called Gang of 10 (now 20) deal and similar energy bills being floated by Democrats on the House side are designed to give liberal members of Congress cover on the most explosive issue of the election season.

The basic deal they pretend to offer is if you give us higher taxes on energy production, we’ll give you more access to offshore oil and gas. But the reality is these deals don’t offer more access to offshore oil and gas at all; they offer less, indeed substantially less than will be available under current law when the calendar turns from September to October. That’s when the current, temporary offshore ban expires. So the liberals offer higher taxes in exchange for new permanent restrictions on access. Some deal. Any member of Congress who wants more domestic production and lower prices at the pump should say no and instead run out the clock on the current ban.
