Question Republican Convention

1)What are your thoughts on the Republicans changing their convention because of Gustav? 2) Would the Democrats have done the same?

CuriousOne wants to know what you think....

I think it was the right thing to do. Apparently they wanted to postpone it altogether but couldn't. If it hurts them, well, it hurts them. They did the right thing. I don't think it will help much...

As for the Democrats, I'm just not sure if they would have done the same thing. I think the uncertainty says a lot in and of itself.

Piney,

Explain further the 'uncertainty'.

Well, I would have said with certainty that the Republicans would have postponed or scaled back their convention out of concern for what's happening in New Orleans.

I'm not sure that the Democrats would have, but of course we'll never know. I suspect they would have made fine-sounding speeches, but wouldn't have scaled back in the least.

I wish I could be as certain that the Democrats would have done what the Republicans did. Just the fact that I suspect they MIGHT not have means something, I think.

They have become Obama uber alles.

Rightly or wrongly Bush looked real bad on Katrina. Republicans can't afford to make that mistake again. Even that fool Mayor Nagin seems to have his act together this time. Whether its been 'tactical' or sincere McCain's been brilliant on this issue so far.

Gee, ya think the people who blamed President Bush for everything that could have been done better with Katrina - will give him praise for everything that was done better this time?

That's a long sentence, but let's see how much credit President Bush gets this time.

I predict the silence will be deafening.

Not that I would EVER accuse the MSM (laMeStream Media) of (Cough, cough) being political!

Odd that the GOP, in their caring and considerate mentality, haven't let up on the entertaining by lobbyists, although McCain ordered them to.

Ouch.

I've said before that I'm sure the Republicans wish they had the kind of iron-fisted control over their people that the Democrats have over theirs.

I've seen that control locally, on forums like this. When the going gets tough, the Democrats totally disappear from commenting. Then, when they've gotten their talking points together they come back -- totally consistent in their remarks.

I admit I envy it. Being able to think and act on your own can be dangerous in marketing and in politics.

So true, which is why I can't subscribe to any collective or ideology. Doesn't work with my independent and individual mindset.

The idea of a political convention smells to me, like watching the Nazi fervor in newsreels from the 1930's. The lack of independent thought is the scariest part of the collective mentality to me.
