Default Note to Congress: Your move!

Finally..... President Bush threw down the gauntlet! Drill now, and drill often!

It is nice to see the President make a stand on his 4 point plan to help this Democratically caused 4 to 5 dollar gas problem. After years and years of refusing to utilize our technology to get the oil in the OCS and ANWR and Oil Shale, they must respond. I can't wait to hear all the tree huggers screaming.

It is about time!
Also, build more refineries!

Creating jobs and controlling oil all by ourselves! Priceless!
NOW GET TO WORK CONGRESS!

You must mean the Regress. They won't do anything now. To occupied with getting a Dem President in office. Nothing will be done until after the election.

That's the American way now! Just look at the State you are living in. NOTHING gets done around election time and we all know there is always an election.

I wonder if this was not the cause for the jump in the speculative oil prices from the beginning...get the price to raise and Americans will clamor to get us drilling domestically. Bush is an oil man, so his #1 priority is to take care of those who will more than take care of him when he is finally sent packing.

I say this is the beginning of an environmental war...there are many out there who will sacrifice much to save the environment from greedy conservatives and those who feed them. The line has been drawn, I can't wait to see who blinks first.

We don't have the resources to be self-reliant, so you can stop lying about that. Destroying the environment will not help us much, it will only line the coffers of big oil, speculators, and keep us from finding those renewable alternatives that are the long-term solution.

Refusing to use domestic oil. Refusing to build more refineries. Refusing to use shale oil.
"Carbon credits" and taxes collected by Big Environmental Industry greed. Blaming everything on "global warming".

"Despite 35 years of empty rhetoric from politicians bemoaning U.S. dependence on foreign oil, legislatively enacted environmental barriers have actually resulted in a 25-percent decline in domestic production since the first ’70s energy crisis — while our usage has increased 20 percent."

Excellent analysis -- and right on target!

I particularly liked this paragraph, a consideration everyone else seems to have ignored:

"Predictably, the liberal counter-argument is that such production is years out, and won’t solve today’s supply problems. Such thinking ignores the speculative component to energy prices, and how much today’s bullish consensus about oil is based on the expectation that American production will continue to decline as it has for going on four decades."

The liberal left just doesn't get it! Once Congress is forced to approve these measures, the market will begin to drop prices. Until the wheels get moving, oil will continue to get more expensive.

The other part of the equation, the left keeps ignoring, is jobs. The number of jobs that will be created will also give us the needed bump in our economy. Construction, engineering, marketing and the list goes on. Capitalism at its finest! This is a process that should have been explored and developed 20 plus years ago. But, today is better than next week!

You are right, no one gets it but conservatives. They are always right about every thing.

Why hasn't big oil taken their record profits and revamped their refining system and process?

Why don't you address that OPEC hasn't really raised their prices, but that oil speculation is the culprit behind the surge in prices?

Why don't you address that while we experiences the pains of dependence in the 1970's, we have no true alternative and renewable energy sources in our mainstream society? How can we talk about putting men on Mars when we can't even find a way to get around without oil?

Why is it that conservatives can only find ways to destroy things?

Oh, and you are not addressing what happens when those "reserves" run out in a few years. What happens to those jobs and our dependency then? It's all smoke and mirrors bent on keeping the addict from addressing his addiction while making conservatives wealthier.

Again "speculation" is the culprit, not oil production.

American production has declined not because the reserves have run out, but because world oil was relatively cheap. All the oil companies have to do is pick up production in areas already being drilled, there really is no need to explore or drill elsewhere (that is unless you are a big oil person, then there is a need to drill EVERYWHERE).

Bush is a big oil man, without oil his family would be greeting people at a local Walmart. So, he needs to take care of those who will take care of him when his family finally gets removed from the White House. Lord knows he won't get any speaking engagements like Clinton (who hires an inarticulate buffoon to speak), so he needs a fallback position. And since he knows oil, well, you get the gist.

And, you mice fall right behind your pied piper...and it leaves others to wonder when you will ever have an original thought not part of the party line or Limbaugh's drugged out anal orifice. We can only hope he leads you into the sea without dragging the rest of us along for the ride.
