What about McCain's preacher...John Hagee?

McCain seems to have received a media pass on his preacher John Hagee whom he has courted, while CNN and Fox have been playing up Obamas Rev Wright for weeks if not months.

Hagee has far more controversial credentials to Catholic Americans than Rev Wright as seen in the article below by Mark Rich.

Since then, Mr. McCain has been shocked to learn that his clerical ally has made many other outrageous statements. Mr. Hagee, it’s true, did not blame the American government for concocting AIDS. But he did say that God created Hurricane Katrina to punish New Orleans for its sins, particularly a scheduled “homosexual parade there on the Monday that Katrina came.”

First of all, the biggest difference is that Hagee is not McCain's pastor, mentor, or close friend. McCain never sat in Hagee's church for 20 years, never had his kids baptized by Hagee, and was not married by Hagee. McCain also never wrote a book inspired by Hagee, nor did Hagee present a lifetime achievement award to someone like David Duke, Farrakhan, etc.

Second, from what I have heard, Hagee (who is not my favorite preacher, so I have no dog in this one) never said the Catholic Church was the Great Whore. He said what many people believe, that the Great Whore will be some sort of FUTURE church/political combination that will arise from the old Roman Empire tradition. Which could mean any religious/political organization from Europe, America, Latin America -- any remnant of the ancient Roman Empire. His use of the word "Roman" was, from what I understand, strictly in that sense -- not a slam on the Roman Catholic Church.
But I don't follow Hagee, so I can't say absolutely for sure that he never slammed the Catholic Church. Just that his reference to the "Roman Church" may not mean what many people think it does.
