Default What I resented about the Obama speech...

He says his white grandmother uttered "racial and ethnic slurs that made him cringe"...but he "still loved her"...Once again talking about the negatives of white persons in America...

When will a prominent and influential black leader EVER acknowledge the very real contribution of WHITE americans to the areas of Civil and Human rights, the advancement of minorities, and the overall betterment of society?

This gratitude is never uttered from their lips...never...???

What about the New England abolitionists who put not only their reputations on the line but their very lives in writing and speaking about the horrors of slavery....men like Ralph Waldo Emerson..Henry David Thoreau...William Lloyd Garrison..Owen and Elijah Lovejoy...and Charles Sumner... and women like Harriet Beecher Stowe...these people owned newspapers and influenced and galvinized public opinion in New England...sent men to Congress and changed the laws of New England and eventually America....

The Lovejoys were murdered for their trouble and their printing presses thrown into the Ohio River...

Lincoln said that Harriet Beecher's Stowe book, "Uncle Tom's Cabin"...was THE CAUSE of the Civil war

Even John Brown, for all his crazyness and violence, put his life on the line trying to free slaves in the south and Mid-west and was eventually hanged....

And maybe just maybe the Civil War was fought to "save the Union"...but no one could deny that it was THAT war, that killed a million white americans and Lincoln that ended slavery.....

What about those white congressmen and senators who ruled America after the Civil War...The Radical Republicans..All white..who fought for Complete equal rights for the freed slave and changed the law of the land by enacting the 13 and 14 th amendments...who placed the Freedman's Bureau in the south (also run by a white minister O.O. Howard) to see that freed slaves were protected and got needed supplies and food...

What about those nameless white social workers( like Margaret Stanger) who founded the Progressive movement in the North and also risked their lives going into the dangerous ghettos of the North after the civil war and changed city, state and federal laws to improve the conditions of people who lived in the Ghettoes...including health and safety, worker conditions, child labor laws and the abuses of discrimination....

Who eventually also wrote books that changed and influenced federal law....men like Upton Sinclair

And all those laws...passed by the Supreme court to protect Black and give thenm the EQUAL rights of voting, education and the end of discrimination...were passed by WHITE supreme court justices..

and those federal laws ending discrimination in the Military was passed by White presidents...

and those laws to end poverty and give equal access to blacks to all types of services..were passed by White presidents and white congresses....

What about all those white ministers and college students who marched right beside Martin Luther King..and without whom..the civil rights movement would never have been effective....

What about JFK and Robert kennedy and Johnson that risked their lives and puplic political careers in placing the National Gurad in the South to Protect blacks and see that their were admitted to schools and universities...
What about Albert Schweitzer...who risked his own life and gave up an easy life of wealth and priviledge..so that he could carve out hospitals throughout the equitorial regions of Africa

And today go to Darfur...go to Somalia and go to the Sudan and see the refugee camps set up by the Peace corps and other international relief organizations...see the young men and women who hand out food and medicines and teach school...what color are these young people..who put their lives on the line..mostly WHITE....

I mean how much sacrifice is there in trying to advance your OWN race and People...that is easily understandable...what big deal is there in that...

But advancing people who are not like you because you believe in the betterment of ALL peoples...all society...

Now, THAT is TRUELY noble....

I ask you have you ever seen a group of black Americans marching to "End the War in Serbia"...or "Allow the church in Poland"...or "End oppression against the Native american"...Or "stop the killing of Children in China"...

Yeah, but to acknowledge that all of KKK America hasn't always been rich white people is to acknowledge that maybe, just maybe, you have to take some responsibility for yourself.

That ain't gonna happen in our lifetime. Not when Cosby gets booed for telling the truth. And as far as I know, he's not Republican, either!

Dance of Hatred; Not the Spirit - PennJersey.info Forums

I think what you really hated about the Obama speech is that he did not endorse your candidate: Hillary Clinton. Face it, you would be defending this speech had he been your choice.

Not true...but it re-affirms my previously held belief that this guy is a phony , a fake....

Those diatribes spouted by pastor wright have been common currency in the black community for twenty years...every black guy on a street corner has heard them...yet, obama wants to pretend they are shocking and that he didn't know about them...this guy is the most smooth talking snake oil salesman to come along in a long time...finally , finally, certain people are finding this out...there just might be hope for democracy yet....

Such the double standard!

You need to hold your likes up to the same standard as your dislikes.
