Default Objectivity vs Profit

In February 2003, a Florida Court of Appeals unanimously agreed with an assertion by FOX News that there is no rule against distorting or falsifying the news in the United States.
Basically, Fox sued for the right to lie... and won. Amazing.

I guess the owners of NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, the New York Times, etc. are interested only in the public good, and have absolutely no profit motive at all.

In fact, I'm sure that's the case.

Despite the fact that none of the above are mentioned in this thread or the link (let's try to keep this on-topic shall we, OHH?) they have certainly never sued for the right to lie to the American people. That is a special right reserved for Murdoch and your favorite station. Besides, are you trying to turn two wrongs into a right?

Maybe they've never sued for the right to lie because they've refined the art to the point where we don't even know HOW they're lying (for instance, leaving out half of a story, focusing on the part of the story that makes their candidate look good, refusing to carry ads from the opposition, etc. etc.)

In fact, maybe Murdoch can LEARN from them.

Of course not, to believe it would take a degree of honesty you have not achieved yet. You can only be "honest" about the other guy, not about yourself or your side.

No way. Even if you actually looked up the case number and stared directly at the lawsuit, you wouldn't believe it. It is that outrageous, and that true. But since Beck hasn't reported it, well, it can't be true, can it?

So we are going with the "two wrongs make a right" then? Perhaps "They did it, so we can too!" Either one attempts to defend a "news" company that SUED to LIE! Defend what should never be defended...

What I find interesting is that I've started to listen to CNN in my car, while I primarily (although not always) watch Fox at home.

CNN is becoming so much like Fox that sometimes I think I'm listening to Fox in the car. So why would CNN copy something they think is wrong? I'm talking down to the opinions injected into "news" shows!
