Saw a tornado today...
I am in New Orleans on business. Today, while entering a client's facility, a colleague and me saw a tornado just before touchdown in a neighboring community. It was the first time that I saw anything like it, and wasn't sure that it was exactly a tornado. It looked like a dark cloud forming a filled in "V" moving from our left to our right.
We mentioned it to the client, and she called me tonight to say what we saw was, in fact, a tornado that killed one woman. Apparently, she left a building and got sucked into the funnel cloud. She later died of her injuries.
The news showed a still picture of the funnel cloud that was taken from the parking lot we were in. It was exact to what we saw.
I will say that I was in awe of the storm. Although we didn't see touchdown (and since I had never seen one I had no clue what I was looking at), the sky was fierce and we were caught in a heavy downpour. We were in Marrero, LA, and the tornado touched down just to our north.
It was just amazing, and an experience that was something that makes one feel oh so small. Funny how that happens once we lose the feeling of control.
Anyway, just wanted to share that experience. I didn't have my stinking camera with me, although I did get a picture of Bourbon Street and will try to get one of the Superdome on my way to the airport tomorrow morning. I haven't been to this area since Katrina (worked in Baton Rouge and in Texas City, TX during that time), and it is eerie to me to be in NOLA. I can't figure out why it is just an eerie place to me.
Peace.
