HOW is this possible? Sweeney, Ironworkers union president, introduces a bill into the Senate Labor Committee. How can he be on the Senate Labor Committee without a conflict of interest?
OK. Steve introduces a bill to the labor committee. This bill passed the Committee. Committee Voting: SLA 2/9/2009 - r/favorably - Yes {4} No {0} Not Voting {0} Abstains {0} - Roll Call Madden, Fred H., Jr. (C) - Yes Cunningham, Sandra B. (V) - Yes Kean, Sean T. - Yes Sarlo, Paul A. - Yes What is the bill? It's another so-called "prevailing wage" law to pay any BPU contractors much more money than would otherwise be required. It's Senate bill S2340 and also called Assembly Bill A3372. From what I recall, NJ roads cost more per mile than any other state in the union. Thank the Prevailiing Wage executive order. I'll betcha they expect some stimulus money to go toward union "construction" projects associated with the BPU ("energy", "green jobs", etc.) Here is the payoff to the unions. AS IF we have all this extra money lying around to pay taxes for them to spend. ![]() No competition to hold costs down. Help me understand how on earth this is not corruption! Socialism. Taxpayer funded. No competition, no "lowest bidder" - it's rigged because the wages are dictated. ----------------------------//---------------------------- Here is what the "labor committee" has been up to (2/9/09): Senate wrapup, 2/9/09 | Capitol Quickies Senate Labor Committee, committee room 10
New Jersey Legislature - Bills Find you legislators: New Jersey Legislature - Districts by Number Fred Madden "represents" my district. Sweeney is also GlouCo Freeholder Director. The bill is attached. OH! HEY! — S2497: Expands the definition of “custom fabrication” subject to prevailing wage requirements. That's a doosey too! 40 (12) "Custom fabrication" means the fabrication of structures, 45 insulation.41 systems, components, materials or assemblies produced for use in a 42 particular construction project, including, but not limited to, any 43 millwork fabrication, and any fabrication of plumbing, heating, 44 cooling, ventilation or exhaust duct systems, and mechanical Alright, now who's business do they have in mind? "fabrication of structures" and so forth... Looks like it applies to more union members if passed. ![]()
