Default Car wash ban

In 2009, washing vehicles in driveways and on the street will be prohibited by the state Department of Environmental Protection's stormwater management regulations, he said.

As a result, every vehicle, including municipal ones, will have to go to a car wash to be washed.

What? How many NJ Superfund/SRP sites (for example, Ringwood mines, GEMS, Shieldalloy) resulted from you or your neighbor washing a car in a driveway?

You would think they had better things to do.

Uh-oh! Lookout! Here come the soapy-sudsy police! Hide that bucket and sponge, it's evidence! Honest officer! I was only washing my dog!

Can I still powerwash my driveway?

Un-frickin' believable. Clowns.

Don't get me going on this stuff. I spend 3 hours yesterday in Trenton listening to testimony on the new state master plan. If one were to follow along with DEP reasoning then we can conclude that farmers are the biggest threat to the environment, followed by new construction. Big corporate polluters don'e even get an honorable mention. When another member of the Commission pointed out to the DEP rep that the chart we had in our handout showed improved streamwater quality you could hear a pin drop. Doesn't matter though. The DEP and their agenda is what governs the state.

BTW, I have not done my 2008 car wash yet. I usually treat myself to a full service wash each year whether or not the car is dirty enough.

I understand the desire to keep stormwater clean, but I don't see how a prohibition on washing cars in private, instead of at a municipal car wash, will give us the biggest bang for the buck. Do we have to keep our cars indoors when it rains?

New Master Plan, Sassy? Is that for your municipality (I'm familiar with ours) or is The State coming up with a new one for all of us? I'm glad somebody is watching them!

Let me guess...all the DEP staffers who live in PA are opening car washes in NJ!

So now we will burn fossil fuel driving to the car wash (for each car) and idling in line. Yep, that's green. Hmmm, what was that Exec Order from Corzine about reducing greenhouse gasses...? I drive past Drumthwacket every day and often see the leaf blower guy out there polluting the air instead of using a rake, so I see how important it really is to the Gov.

This is why you should wash your car behind your house.

Hmmm.... I think I will go into business opening up a people wash. Then I just need to suggest to a politician that it is environmentally unsound for people to bathe themselves at home... This could be big.
