Judging from what Baltimore Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome told the Baltimore Sun today speculation about the Ravens' attempting to acquire Donovan McNabb might be a bit premature.
"We have not had one meeting to discuss any personnel on our team or anyone else's team," Newsome said. "We've been very busy hiring assistant coaches."
ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Sunday that the Ravens "are seriously considering" trading for McNabb. Of course, for that to happen the Eagles would have to want to trade him. Coach Andy Reid and other Eagles sources repeatedly have said that McNabb will be the team's quarterback in 2008.
Any Ravens package for McNabb would probably have to start with the eighth overall pick in the 2008 draft.
The Sun reported that incumbent starter Steve McNair has been rehabbing his surgically repaired left shoulder two to three days a week at the Ravens' headquarters.
Asked if McNair could come back as the starter, Newsome told the newspaper, "We have not had any dialogue about our personnel. We don't have a quarterback coach yet."
