LUMBERTON — Two burglars made off with approximately $20,000 worth of prescription drugs early Thursday morning during an elaborate break-in at a Rite Aid drug store, police said.
The burglary occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. at the Rite Aid in the Lumberton Plaza off Route 38.
Investigators said the two culprits managed to disable the store's alarm and then force open the rear door of a vacant store adjacent to the pharmacy. The burglars then kicked through the sheet rock connecting wall to gain access to the Rite Aid, police said.
Inside the store, the pair loaded a black duffle bag with numerous bottles of prescription drugs, including Oxycotin, Oxycodone, Percocet, Vicodin and Xanax. The two burglars then exited through the hole and fled the shopping center, police said.
The burglary was not discovered until 7 a.m., police said.
Investigators said the burglars were videotaped removing drugs from shelves by the store video surveillance cameras. No descriptions of the pair were released. However, investigators said a silver and red truck was seen in the shopping center just prior to the burglary.
Police ask anyone with information to call detectives at (609) 267-1111 or (609) 267-8300.
